Find the Brand Value in Moral Correctness

Forget PC…Embrace MC

As we navigate the waters of enlightenment for decision-makers to take off their blinders and remove their fear of the unknown about diversity, equity, inclusivity, and accessibility, it is interesting to watch people buckle at the topic. Rather than opening their minds in order to absorb the realities of humanity, they seem to take comfort in the realm of their own understanding – even if founded on incomplete information. They retreat and claim they won’t succumb to political correctness.

So, our challenge is first to open minds and hearts (and, in some cases, show the economic benefit) of merely paying attention to all people – to be morally correct by being inclusive first in their thoughts, decision-making process and actions.

Additionally, we need to understand that by paying attention and leaning into dialog with a mosaic of humans representing the fabric of our culture, we can easily change our behavior.

We need to think about everyone on the same playing field no matter age, gender, race/ethnicity, or disability. At first it seems overwhelming, and you don’t know how to be truly inclusive in hiring, design and build of physical spaces, advertising – all human touch points you have with your brand. But if you start small, you will likely have an AH-HA moment and everything else comes easily from there.

Don’t hide behind a self-built dam of political correctness. Break down that dam and adopt unconditional positive regard for all. You’ll likely find your best employees and customers by just embracing the moral high ground.

Destroy the dam of political correctness and fill the ocean of true inclusivity.

Be informed. Be intelligent. Be effective. True marketing inclusivity strike a chord?
